The Performance Test seems to get less attention in prep materials relative to how much it matters on the overall score. I took the exam last February (passed) and the PT was actually where I picked up the most points. Sharing what worked for me.
Time management first: 90 minutes per PT. I spent the first 15 minutes reading the Task Memo thoroughly before touching the Library. You're writing to a specific format — brief, memo, letter, or something else — and knowing that before you read cases changes how you annotate them.
The Library is finite: Unlike the MBE where you might not know a rule, everything you need to answer the PT is in the file. There are no trick rules hiding in your memory. This actually makes it the most controllable part of the exam if you treat it as a reading comprehension and writing exercise.
Don't over-brief the cases: Pull only the holdings and reasoning directly relevant to the client's facts. Examiners are looking for application, not case summaries.
Write like a first-year associate: The fictional supervising partner doesn't want creativity — they want clear, organized, professional work product that follows their instructions exactly.
